The junior section of the running club is extremely popular, with nearly 100 members. Children of all abilities aged 8 upwards are welcome to join in the fun.

We have fifteen UK Athletic qualified coaches, who are all CRB (police) checked. To see the full list of coaches and other key members of the junior section, including contact details, please refer to our “Junior Harrier Key Contacts” list.

Training takes place twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 6 p.m and 7 p.m as follows: -

Summer (April – August) - Moreton Park Sports Field - track and field training.

Winter (Sept – April) - Tuesdays - Bideford College Sports Hall - a variety of circuit type fun exercises.

Winter (Sept – April) - Thursdays – road running - meeting at the Clubhouse on The Pill. This is endurance training for juniors aged 9 +. Athletes wishing to take part will first need to undertake a trial session, where the coaches will judge your capabilities for this type of training.

Throughout the year, those wishing to compete are actively encouraged to take part in the Devon Open Series Track & Field League, Devon Sportshall League, Brooks Westward League Cross Country and the N Devon Cross Country League.

Anyone representing the club in competition must wear a club top. However, this is not essential on training nights. A selection of club kit is available to purchase.  For more information, please see the “ Club Kit” link.  Before any training can take place, a consent form MUST be completed for each athlete.  Please print a copy from the “Contracts” link.

Fees - junior harrier membership is currently £13 per year.  There is also a subscription charge of £1 per month per athlete.  New recruits can have 2 free training sessions.

There is currently a waiting list to join the junior harriers.  To add your name to the list, or for further information, please contact: -

Every runner who competes in 4 out of the 6 races earns a shield.

Each runner’s/team’s 4 best scores are added together to give an individual final result.  A “team” is 3 runners finishing from the same club/school.  Trophies and shields are awarded to the winning teams and individuals in each age group.

Presentations are made after the last race at the final meeting of the season.
