Wayne Stephens and Steve Galliene came home first and second on 7th October at the South Molton 10K. Their times of 34.25 and 34.41 also ensured that the Blues won the mens team prize too! Sue Pennington was our first lady home in a very respectable 47.43, just 2 seconds slower than Heardy!
Adrian Eric and Mike take a trip to Bude ... apest!
Eight runners from North Devon, including three from the Blues, ventured to Hungary for the Budapest Marathon on September 30. Despite temperatures reaching 28 degrees (and minimal training) Eric Hubber scorched round the course in 4.41 hours to finish second in the Vet 70 age group. Mike Mears was first 'Blue' home in 3.09, and Adrian Vanstone followed in 3.35.

The party was made up by Dave Wenman, Hilary Mortimer, Emma Gooding & Amanda Andrews from Torrington, along with Diana Harvey representing North Devon Road Runners. Everyone in the group (joined by three supporters) had a fantastic time in one of Europe's most beautiful cities. Their trip included a four hours walking tour followed by a wine tasting session on the Friday. But the highlight of their visit was probably the post race banquet onboard a boat sailing up and down the river Danube on the Sunday evening!   (More photos available on Bluesviews)

Bideford's Mark Jenkin wins 2007 10 miler in blistering time of 54:07
Mark Jenkin ran away from a field of 135 runners to take the Bideford 10 miles road race on Sunday. After establishing an early lead with clubmates Peter Hockin & Steve Gallienne, Jenkin maintained a strong pace against the wind in the second half of the race on the Tarka Trail to win by well over 2 minutes. Mark Batchelor of South Molton Strugglers worked his way through to claim second place, while Hockin held on to claim third and be first in the O/45 age group. The ladies race went to Catherine Newman of Exmouth Harriers, who held a 44-second margin over North Devon AC’s Eloise Pittwood at the finishing line.
Pub Run - 16th August - A select team of runners set off from The Westleigh Inn for a 5 mile trek through uncharted territory, including numerous hills and the odd cow pat. Having failed miserably in attempts to get served at the pub at the end of the run (perhaps it was the sweaty armpits) they enjoyed a fish and chip supper on Bideford Quay instead ... delicious!
Torbay Half Marathon
Congratulations to Steve Galliene who was our only entrant in the Torbay Half (as far as I can tell) and completed the course in 1:20:54, finishing 27th ... and he wore his Blues t-shirt so we could pick him out on Westcountry TV - way to go Steve! -  Full results HERE

BIDEFORD 10K - 20 May 2007
On a perfect day for running, over 300 runners completed the 2007 Bideford 10K on the fast course from Bideford to Instow and back. The race proved to be very successful for the home club as pre-race favourite John Ward led home a 1-2-3 in the men’s race, winning by just over 30 seconds from club-mate Mark Jenkin, with Peter Hockin finishing as third overall and first veteran another 22 seconds back. The top 3 prizes in the ladies race also all stayed in North Devon, but were shared around the clubs as home runner Hollie Knight took the spoils from North Devon Road Runners’ Vicky Skelton and Torrington’s Marilyn Blair. A number of the veterans and juniors age group prizes also stayed in the region. The race was sponsored by Devonshire Pine Ltd and RT Marke & Co, Chartered Accounts, and has hopefully raised a large amount of money for the Children’s Hospice South West.
